Dear P
I can't seem to sleep beyond 5.00am. Woke with a stonking head, the result of too much cheap plonk at last night's dinner.
I'd prepared a little note informing folk of your death. Since your had so many art admirers Jackie Richards came to help me fill envelopes. And, for the second day running, the hall floor reverberated with the thud of sympathy cards and letters. They are so moving. Reflections on how you touched peoples lives and nearly all expressing shock.
We made a start on doing the artwork for the Order Of Service and an insert which would celebrate your life and works. I also arranged that Bill Boyd, a long time friend, should deliver the service.
In the afternoon I drafted some early thoughts for your eulogy. I'm of a mind to do so. I show it to your dad, whose initial impression is that it comes too much from the head. He felt it didn't really encapsulate what you are about. He illustrates his point by using the letter from John Bodie, which seems closer to what is required. I resolve to do a re-draft. It will be a long process.
The evening's football on Sky is cause for minor celebration when Arsenal, your dad's little lads, beat Manchester City 3-1.
Love
M
